Mrs Roe's weekly update - week ending 25th November 2011

My goodness the weeks are flying by and soon it will be Christmas!!!  We and the pupils have been working flat out this week preparing for the next FCSE exam.  Year 9's were taking written and speaking tests this week, and they really did well - we were so proud of them!  Year 8's managed to do some great conversations asking directions in French, and we've uploaded some of their work already onto the blog via youtube!  Year 10's are getting their first taste of the coursework required for GCSE and year 11's are also working well, preparing for their mock exams from next week, and also their next piece of coursework.  Let's just hope that we have enough time to get through everything.  We have now received letters back from parents, and so will create two Urdu classes after Christmas, at the same time as our year 8 Carousel of languages starts, so it's all very exciting at the moment!  Miss Bell's successful Spanish class will be finishing soon, and I know those who attended have found it really interesting and worthwhile.  The Spanish and French lunchtime clubs continue to be well attended.  The second deposit is due for the year 7 Pas-de-Calais trip, so please hand this in to the office and let Mme Plouchart know too.  Plans for the Chinese trip is well underway for next year, and there are lots more international activities planned for the future, which will do wonders to broaden our pupils'horizons!

Mrs Roe's weekly update - week ending 18th November

Another busy week at Grangefield, ending with the Children in Need celebrations today.  The pupils had a non-uniform day today, sold cakes, and hopefully made a lot of money for this worthy cause! Year 11's are working very hard at the moment, coming to the extra lessons and either about to take or start work on their next piece of coursework.  Next Thursday after school, the staff will have another twilight session, so the French and Spanish year 11 teachers will be seeing their classes to arrange an alternative lesson.  We are in the midst of FCSE testing, and many classes are preparing to take their speaking tests soon.

We've had another busy week this week.  We've been starting work on our next controlled assessment in year 11, the second languages in year 9 are working well, and we told our present year 8 about our Carousel of Languages which will be starting after Christmas.  Pupils will continue to study French as their main language, or can swap to Urdu as their main language, and all will have half a term's taster language of Mandarin, Spanish, German, and Urdu.  We have sent a letter out to all the parents about it, and showed the following power point to all our year 8's Download LANGUAGES CAROUSEL AT GRANGEFIELD !  Parents, please contact me if you have any questions about this.  The pupils will be doing a project in the final week of each half term, so it's all quite exciting and we're really looking forward to next term!   The Spanish and French clubs continue to be well attended and so lots enthusiasm there from our young learners!
