Mrs Roe’s weekly update – week ending 30th September 2011
We’ve had such an exciting week this week at Grangefield celebrating the European Day of Languages – which we in fact celebrated all week!! Miss Bell organised lots of activities including a Routes into Languages poster competition, year 7’s were running round the school finding out flags which we stuck up in rooms all over the school (our school is massive!), the staff (and some pupils) were treat to some fabulous flag cakes, the tutor groups took part in a quiz, the canteen staff were something else!!! They played music from the countries and served French, Spanish and German foods from Tuesday – Thursday, decorated the canteen, wore the hats from the various countries, and served lots of different foods, Wiener Schnitzel, Sauer kraut (surprisingly popular!) paella, black forest gateau – or !!!! Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte Say that with a mouthful!!!! All the pupils were asking which country’s food they were going to have on Friday!!!! We tested some of our year 11’s for their GCSE speaking assessments, did some filming with our wonderful year 7’s, year 8’s and 9’s produced some great work on houses and food, so hopefully we’ll get their work uploaded onto the blog soon. Mrs McHale has organised a powerpoint showing on the screen in the MFL corridor of memorable moments from last year in languages . Miss Taylor and Mme Plouchart have been busy getting the MFL area ready for Open Evening on Tuesday, and on Monday we’re going to launch next year’s Pas-de-Calais trip in the year 7 assembly. Claire, our French assistant will start soon, and is coming in to see everyone on Monday, we’re also looking forward to welcoming Susanna, our Spanish assistant soon, and the Chinese teachers should also arrive next week!!!! It’s never a dull moment at Grangefield!!!
