Mrs Roe’s weekly update week ending 28th April 2011
This has been a very short week – I think we could cope with a three day week! However, we have still been busy, the year 10’s started their exams, and the year 11’s are finishing off essential coursework, ready to be sent off to the moderators very soon. The year 11’s are now revising for the listening and reading exams in May. Students are advised to use the revision booklets we have given them, and also to go onto the AQA websites and BBC Bitesize, as well as Linguascope and Languagesonline, all easily accessible via the blog. Not long to go! Please remember that the MFL teachers are available for revision sessions, so please see your language teacher to check on this. Year 7’s and 8’s have been finishing assessments or starting new modules, and the Carousel has reached its third phase and I was teaching German to some delightful classes this week who were very responsive! Some year 9’s started a short course in Mandarin too, so the language opportunities at Grangefield at the moment are something else. As Miss Yuan told my class – 9g4 today, that by learning some Mandarin, they could communicate with over a billion more people! Amazing! Our year 9 classes started the final stage of the FCSE course and they are all now two thirds of the way through the course, and hopefully, an AQA approved qualification is in sight! The French trip to the Pas de Calais is in hand, money is now in (more or less!), and we will be holding a final meeting for parents next Thursday to go over final details. We have sent letters to parents today, so hopefully, as many as possible will attend the meeting. It should be a great trip and pupils should gain a lot from the experience.
HOMEWORK. We will include a more detailed homework update next week, but year 7’s should be revising for the module test on schools, or starting sports, year 8’s should be revising for the Métro 2 module 2 on invitations and activities, year 9 French sets should be revising descriptions, year 9 Spanish sets should be revising Food and Drink, and KS4 pupils should be revising for exams.
